On May 18, the Preah Sihanouk provincial branch of the Cambodian Red Cross received donations worth a reported total of more than US$100,000 from 74 donors across society, including traders, businesses and government departments and units. The handover ceremony was presided over by provincial Governor Mang Sineth, who also chairs the branch committee.
According to the provincial branch's report, this second round of fundraising brought in more than 100 million riel and US$76,377, with a combined value reported at over US$100,000. The first round, held on May 6, had raised donations worth nearly US$420,000, along with 800 packs of drinking water.
Mang Sineth thanked all donors and public departments and units for supporting the provincial Red Cross branch each year. The branch welcomed further contributions of money, food and other supplies to help it carry out humanitarian relief for people affected by disasters and vulnerable people in urgent need of assistance.
Mang Sineth pledged to direct donated funds, food and supplies to poor and vulnerable families, poor veterans and people with disabilities according to their needs, with particular support for frontline troops and people displaced by fighting. The report said the provincial branch had previously used donations to support frontline troops and displaced people, build homes for people facing the greatest hardship and vulnerability in local communities, and undertake other humanitarian and charitable activities.
