Authorities in Angkor Borei district, Takeo province, stopped two vehicles carrying more than three tonnes of illegally imported frozen meat and ordered its destruction to prevent goods that could pose a public-health risk from entering the market.
The operation took place on May 24, 2026 under the direction of district governor កង អាណាន់, with participation from district police, Takeo provincial police, the provincial Consumer Protection, Competition and Fraud Repression branch, and customs officials.
According to the authorities, the vehicles were stopped after information was received about the clandestine transport of frozen meat into the district. An inspection found 388 cartons weighing a total of 3,042 kg, imported without the required permits and valid hygiene-quality certificates.
Authorities warned that frozen meat of unclear origin that has not undergone the required technical inspections could create health risks, including food poisoning, infection and other illnesses. They said improper storage or transport could also reduce quality and endanger consumers.
Following the discovery and instructions from the prosecutor attached to the Takeo provincial court, the joint team transported all the seized frozen meat for destruction by burning in Ba Srae commune, Angkor Borei district, to prevent it from being diverted back onto the market.
The district administration urged traders and importers to comply with the law and hygiene standards. It said inspections and enforcement against illegal or substandard goods would continue to protect food safety and public health. By: Pai Sokhim
