Cambodian Foreign Minister Prak Sokhonn met Thai Foreign Minister Sihasak Phuangketkeow on May 26 to discuss lasting solutions to border disputes. The meeting took place on the sidelines of the United Nations Security Council High-Level Open Debate in New York. It followed up on the trilateral meeting among Cambodia, Thailand and the Philippines held in Cebu in early May 2026 on the sidelines of the 48th ASEAN Summit.
The two foreign ministers exchanged views frankly and openly on the border situation. Deputy Prime Minister Prak Sokhonn reiterated Cambodia’s position on its decision to initiate compulsory conciliation under the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS). He also called for the full and effective implementation of the Joint Statement dated December 27, 2025, with sincerity and in good faith.
The Cambodian foreign minister told his Thai counterpart that Cambodia was ready to work with Thailand to implement the measures agreed by the two heads of government in Cebu, rebuild trust and seek a fair and lasting solution. Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to close and regular communication to pursue peaceful and sustainable solutions to border issues and strengthen good-neighbourly relations between Cambodia and Thailand.
