Summary

Sar Sokha said on May 27 that around 300,000 foreigners linked to online scams had been arrested, deported or left Cambodia voluntarily. The combined figure does not mean all had been deported.

During a meeting in Phnom Penh on May 27 with Swiss Ambassador to Cambodia Pedro Zwahlen, Cambodian Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Sar Sokha said that, as of then, around 300,000 foreign nationals suspected of involvement in online scams had been arrested, deported or left Cambodia voluntarily.

Sar Sokha said some scam ringleaders had been arrested and repatriated, while others were serving prison sentences. He also said the Cambodian government had taken action against officials implicated in scam-related matters, including arrests, referrals to court, dismissals and reassignments.
