At a fruit and food heritage event on June 1, 2026, Kampot governor Mao Thonin called for protecting the quality and identity of local durians, traditional sweets and food to support tourism and agriculture.

Speaking at the opening of the “Kampot Fruit and Food Heritage” event, themed “The Flavour of Kampot Durian and the Prestige of Green-Season Tourism”, on June 1, 2026, Kampot governor Mao Thonin called on farmers, producers, communities and traders to protect the reputation of Kampot durians and the heritage of traditional Khmer sweets and food to promote provincial tourism and agriculture.

He said Kampot durians and many other agricultural products had become prominent symbols of the province, providing income for farmers and enhancing Kampot’s reputation in national and international markets.

The governor said local fruit, sweets and food were delicious and important attractions for visitors, especially during the green season. He urged all relevant parties to maintain their quality and identity so they could continue attracting tourists and expanding markets for local products.

Mao Thonin added that the event was more than a platform to promote and sell agricultural products: it was also an opportunity to showcase Kampot’s tourism, culture and food heritage, preserved and passed down through generations.

He encouraged residents and young people to preserve and develop traditional Khmer sweets and dishes in line with current market needs, to increase local product value, create jobs, raise incomes and further stimulate the local economy.
