Phnom Penh: The ASEAN Observer Team (AOT), led by its Philippine head of mission, inspected and verified conditions at Stung Meteuk bridge in Thma Da commune, Veal Veaeng district, Pursat, coordinated by Cambodia’s CLG team.
According to the Defence Ministry spokesperson, the mission on the morning of June 6, 2026 aimed to collect information, verify the situation and prepare a report on the bridge, described as important Cambodian civilian infrastructure.
The bridge was reported to have been bombed by Thai warplanes on December 13, 2025, leaving it severely damaged and completely severed, unusable for traffic. The report describes it as tens of kilometres from the border and entirely civilian infrastructure.
Cambodia’s government and Defence Ministry reiterated their firm commitment to respect and fully implement all relevant peace agreements and documents, including the October 26, 2025 Joint Statement on the Cambodia–Thailand Peace Agreement and the December 27, 2025 Joint Declaration of the third special Cambodia–Thailand General Border Committee (GBC) meeting.
Cambodia said sincere, good-faith implementation of obligations was essential to restoring normality, rebuilding mutual trust and ensuring peace, stability and sustainable border development.
The report presents the visit as part of monitoring implementation of the peace agreement and as showing ASEAN’s support for regional stability and peaceful resolution of problems. By: សុខ ស៊ីណាន
