6/9: Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet and Thai Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul held an informal meeting in Vietnam. The report says they committed to international law, easing maritime and border tensions and working to turn the fragile ceasefire into lasting peace.
At the 2026 ASEAN Future Forum, Hun Manet said that although the ceasefire remained in place, the situation was unstable and borders and sovereignty must not be altered through force or faits accomplis. He called for swift implementation of the two countries’ 2025/12/27 joint statement and a resumption of demarcation and delimitation work by the Joint Boundary Commission. He stressed that Cambodia valued its neighbourly relationship with Thailand and hoped to maintain regional peace and prosperity together.
On the maritime dispute, Hun Manet said Cambodia had initiated compulsory conciliation under the UN Convention on the Law of the Sea and that Thailand had expressed willingness to participate, describing this as an important step towards a peaceful resolution of overlapping maritime claims. Anutin Charnvirakul said relations were at a critical point and both countries needed political will to overcome challenges and open a new chapter.
