According to figures issued by Cambodia’s General Department of Customs and Excise (GDCE) on June 10, 2026, merchandise trade with international partners exceeded US$30 billion in the first five months of 2026, up 18.9% year on year. The report describes this as strong trading activity.
The same report states that exports exceeded US$14 billion in January–May 2026, rising 19%, while imports exceeded US$16 billion, up 18.9% from the same period of 2025.
លឹម ហេង, vice-president of the Cambodia Chamber of Commerce, said continued investment growth over the past two years was an important factor driving the expansion of trade with international partners.
Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economy and Finance Aun Pornmoniroth said Cambodia’s economy was forecast to grow 4.2% in 2026, slightly slower than in 2025, because of adverse factors including rising fuel prices, war in the Middle East and the Cambodia–Thailand border conflict.
Separately, the World Bank projected that Cambodia’s economy could grow 3.9% in 2026 amid an energy crisis, lower remittances from workers abroad and tighter credit conditions. Nevertheless, the economy continued to show resilience, supported by increased foreign direct investment and export growth.
World Bank Country Manager for Cambodia Tania Meyer said the economy was showing resilience despite multiple simultaneous challenges, and that targeted policies protecting jobs and livelihoods could sustain that strength. By: Pai Sokhim
