Summary

Senate President Hun Sen said on June 13, 2026, that Thai goods brought through land crossings during the Cambodia–Thailand land-border closure should be treated as illegal or smuggled. He called for strict checks, while saying water and air transport continued normally under customs supervision.

Phnom Penh: Cambodia's Senate President, Samdech Techo Hun Sen, posted on his official social media on the morning of June 13, 2026, reiterating that all goods imported from Thailand through land crossings while the Cambodia–Thailand land border remained closed should be regarded as illegal or smuggled goods that harmed national interests and dignity.

Hun Sen said the continued appearance of newly produced Thai goods on Cambodian markets could result from misinterpretation, turning a blind eye, lawbreaking, corruption, or the activities of some dishonest officials and traders. He stressed that when the land border was closed, neither people nor goods could cross. The appearance of goods imported through the land border therefore required serious attention and strict action from the relevant authorities.

He also stated that the transport of people and goods by water and air continued normally, under the supervision of customs authorities responsible for determining whether goods were legal or illegal.

Hun Sen rejected claims that some goods were remaining stocks, saying that certain products manufactured in 2026 had appeared on Cambodian markets even though the land border had been closed for more than a year.

He added that consumers were in charge and should not spend their money on goods while allowing others to look down on them or their nation.
