The Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries released more than 800,000 young crabs (ក្តាមសេះ) into the marine areas of five Kampot fishing communities—ព្រែកត្នោត, ត្រពាំងរពៅ, ទទឹងថ្ងៃ, ចង្ហោន and កែបថ្មី—to replenish natural fisheries resources and improve fishers’ livelihoods.
The release ceremony was chaired by Agriculture Ministry Secretary of State ឃុន សាវឿន and attended by an FAO representative in Cambodia. The young crabs were hatched and reared by the Marine Aquaculture Research and Development Center (MARDec).
ឃុន សាវឿន called on fishers to protect fisheries resources by observing fisheries law, preventing illegal fishing and protecting aquatic habitats to ensure sustainable marine resources for the future.
The activity is part of CamAdapt, implemented by the agriculture and environment ministries with technical support from FAO and funding from the Global Environment Facility (GEF).
