Cambodia’s acting head of state Hun Sen met Dacian Julien Cioloş, special adviser to Romania’s president, at the Senate’s Solidarity Palace on June 17. Hun Sen expressed a wish for the Francophonie’s 53 member countries to strengthen cooperation and the organization’s role.
Senate spokesperson ជា ធីរិទ្ធ said afterwards that Hun Sen hoped the visit would strengthen Cambodia–Romania relations and further improve Cambodia’s ties with the Francophonie.
The adviser conveyed a message from Romania’s president to Cambodia’s King and greetings to acting head of state Hun Sen. He said bilateral relations were good and both countries would work to expand them.
On Francophonie affairs, the adviser said he was a candidate for the organization’s secretary-general position and discussed its important role in expanding, strengthening and promoting multilateralism.
He congratulated Cambodia on its forthcoming hosting of the Francophonie summit in November, calling it a valuable opportunity to contribute to the organization.
Hun Sen thanked Romania’s president for the greetings to the King and himself and exchanged views on international affairs and multilateralism. He stressed that the organization currently had 53 full members, which should cooperate more closely to strengthen its role and development.
He also urged member countries to expand communication and economic links, strengthening economic, trade and investment cooperation in support of political relations.
Hun Sen said the organization should consider supporting its members internationally. The adviser said Romania’s president and business leaders would attend the summit in Cambodia, and Hun Sen expressed his readiness to welcome them.
