Summary

An 11.7 km laterite-road repair project in Ratanakiri was 70% complete by mid-June. It links Banlung, Lumphat and Bar Kaev areas and is expected to improve access to communities and tourism sites.

Ratanakiri province: The provincial rural development department is accelerating repairs to an important laterite road through សាយ៉ស់ village, between Lumphat district and Banlung city. By mid-June 2026, the overall project was 70% complete and expected to finish shortly.

The route has a total length of 11,700 metres.

Connections: The economic route links Banlung city, Lumphat district and Bar Kaev district, including យក្ខឡោម commune, សេដា, កាឡែង, បាតាង and លុងឃុង communes.

Tourism destinations: It will improve access to the province’s well-known ancient volcanic យក្ខឡោម lake and អូរស៊ិនលែរ៍ waterfall.

From difficult travel to new opportunities:

The road had been badly damaged for years, causing difficulties for residents and students in both dry and rainy seasons, especially for school travel, agricultural transport and emergency medical journeys.

Provincial rural development director អៀន អឿន said completion would bring two main benefits:

1. Better daily access: shorter journeys, easier communication, faster transport of goods and farm products, and more timely emergency response.

2. Tourism development: easier access for domestic and international visitors to natural and historical sites, supporting the economy and tourism across Ratanakiri province.
