On the afternoon of June 18, Cambodian Deputy Prime Minister and Council for the Development of Cambodia (CDC) First Vice Chairman Sun Chanthol led a senior delegation to a working meeting in Seoul with 金斗植, head of Korea’s foreign investment ombudsman institution (FIO).
The two sides discussed how Cambodia could draw on Korea’s investment aftercare experience to improve services and complaint-handling mechanisms for foreign investors and strengthen confidence among international companies investing in Cambodia.
The Korean side presented its “Home Doctor” mechanism. The report described FIO as an independent mechanism established in 1999 under Korea’s Foreign Investment Promotion Act, employing experts from different fields rather than civil servants to advise foreign-invested companies. Dedicated experts provide one-to-one support for individual investment cases and coordinate across departments to address operational difficulties and complaints.
The Korean side expressed willingness to provide technical assistance and help Cambodia study and establish a similar, internationally oriented investor service system covering the full investment lifecycle.
Sun Chanthol welcomed the offer and outlined Cambodia’s existing services. He said Cambodia attaches great importance to foreign investment, particularly Korean investment, and that the CDC has established a dedicated “Korea desk” to provide one-stop consultation and investment-environment assessments for Korean companies.
Cambodia has also established channels including the Government–Private Sector Forum, public–private dialogue mechanisms and government–business breakfast meetings. It will continue institutionalized communication to create a more convenient, stable and transparent environment for foreign investors.
