Cambodia and Malaysia have formalized a strategic media partnership through a newly signed memorandum of understanding (MoU) aimed at expanding cooperation in information, journalism and media.
The countries plan to expand collaboration on digital transformation and artificial intelligence (AI), as well as technical efforts to counter the growing spread of false news.
The agreement was reached at a meeting in Penang during Malaysia’s 2026 National Journalists’ Day activities. Cambodian Information Ministry Under-Secretary of State Prak Thaveak Amida and Malaysian Communications Minister Datuk Seri Fahmi Fadzil attended.
The two officials discussed shared media-sector challenges, including false news, misinformation, digital-security threats and the rapid growth of AI in communications.
They agreed that closer media cooperation should improve mutual understanding and generate further benefits for tourism, culture, trade and people-to-people exchanges.
The memorandum covers news and information exchange, radio and television programme production, journalist training, human-resource development, digital technology and AI applications, countering false news, and film and documentary production.
It promotes closer connections among national media institutions, including Cambodia’s Agence Kampuchea Presse (AKP) and Malaysia’s national news agency (BERNAMA), alongside cooperation among broadcasting, training and regulatory institutions in both countries.
