The Anti-Cybercrime Department recently investigated and detained two suspects, including one woman, and referred them to a Phnom Penh Municipal Court judge, who ordered pretrial detention. They allegedly extorted money and threatened to expose victims’ private information under the guise of illegal online loans.
The investigation followed instructions from National Police Commissioner General ស ថេត and guidance from a deputy commissioner with the rank of lieutenant general. Investigators said the suspects used the Facebook account Zeii Neth to contact victims, threaten exposure of private information and demand money.
The department prepared case files and referred both suspects to Phnom Penh Municipal Court. A judge ordered pretrial detention on an allegation of threatening to expose private information, with detention at Correctional Centre 1, Prey Sar M1, and Correctional Centre 2, Prey Sar M2.
The Anti-Cybercrime Department urged the public to consider online borrowing carefully, particularly checking whether the lender is a lawful lending institution before borrowing, to avoid subsequent risks. By: ង៉ែត ពិសាន្ត
