The Phnom Penh administration is accelerating priority rehabilitation and cleaning of ten drainage routes in Chamkar Mon district after completing drain and rainwater-channel cleaning in Daun Penh and canal rehabilitation and pumping-station construction projects on the city’s outskirts.
The work follows instructions from Phnom Penh Governor ឃួង ស្រេង to prepare for rainwater drainage, reduce flooding and protect homes and infrastructure during the coming rainy season.
Deputy Governor ឯក ឃុនដឿន said on June 22, 2026, that teams were clearing drains along major boulevards and streets in Chamkar Mon, including សម្តេចសុធារស Boulevard, ព្រះនរោត្តម Boulevard, ម៉ៅសេទុង Boulevard, ព្រះមុន្នីវង្ស Boulevard, យុទ្ធពលខេមរភូមិ Boulevard, រដ្ឋសភា Street, ចៃការ Street, and streets 430, 466 and 484.
The operation uses 12 vehicles divided into five teams working simultaneously. After completing Chamkar Mon, the teams will continue to Boeung Keng Kang, 7 Makara and Tuol Kork districts.
ឯក ឃុនដឿន also instructed district and sangkat authorities to identify locations at high risk of flooding so drainage systems can be cleared in time. He urged residents to store and bag rubbish properly to protect hygiene and the environment and reduce blocked drains that cause flooding during heavy rain.
The city administration and Department of Public Works and Transport are jointly clearing drainage manholes and mud from drainage systems in central districts to prepare to prevent flooding before the rainy season.
