A ceremony marking the opening of cross-border transport of Cambodian agricultural products through Laos to China was held in Vientiane on June 22. Senior Cambodian and Lao agriculture and forestry officials and representatives of 30 Cambodian agricultural enterprises attended. The report describes the route’s opening as a result of Cambodia–Laos consultations. It says the countries opened a new cross-border transit checkpoint and improved customs clearance, quarantine and logistics procedures, facilitating exports to China of six Cambodian products: bananas, mangoes, durians, rice, Pailin longan and cassava flour, and substantially improving logistics efficiency. Cambodia’s Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries welcomed the route as a major regional-cooperation achievement. It offers a new channel for steady access to China’s market and supports Cambodian agriculture in expanding markets and competitiveness. The parties hope it will deepen agricultural trade and economic cooperation among Cambodia, Laos and China, benefit people working along the route and support shared development.
