Acting on reports from residents, police in Sala Krau district, Pailin province, carried out a targeted operation and arrested a suspect accused of impersonating a law enforcement officer yesterday afternoon. Police said he was caught in the act.
According to police inquiries, the suspect had traveled through several provinces committing offenses. Police alleged that he posed as an officer, unlawfully stopped passing vehicles without cause and searched roadside shops and the lawful residences of foreign nationals without authorization. They said he used his false official identity to intimidate residents and extort money, causing financial losses to several victims and serious harm to the community.
The arrest stopped the alleged conduct and prevented further victims, the report said. The suspect is now in police detention. Local police will further investigate all case leads, secure relevant evidence and pursue the suspect’s legal responsibility in accordance with the law, while continuing action against the impersonation of public officials to maintain public order.
