On 26 June 2026, Senate President and Cambodian People’s Party President Hun Sen held a working meeting with Xi Jinping, general secretary of the Communist Party of China and president of the People’s Republic of China.
ជា ធីរិទ្ធ, Hun Sen’s spokesperson, said Xi expressed satisfaction with his contribution to strong Cambodia–China friendship, which he described as rock-solid. Xi recalled his 2025 Cambodia visit and its contribution to stronger relations, particularly the building of an all-weather Cambodia–China community with a shared future in the new era.
Hun Sen thanked Xi for welcoming him and his delegation and agreed with his assessment of the relationship. He called the two countries ironclad friends and said their friendship would remain unchanged despite changes in the world and the climate. He described China as an old, true and trusted friend of the Cambodian people.
The two sides further discussed expanding cooperation
in the economy and infrastructure. Hun Sen requested continued Chinese infrastructure support and said China’s role was indispensable to Cambodia’s infrastructure and economic development. They also discussed closer security work, information exchanges and senior-delegation visits.
They also discussed cooperation between their parties. A memorandum of understanding between the CPP and the Communist Party of China was signed during Hun Sen’s visit, described as supporting party-level political dialogue and more active youth training in both parties.
They further discussed current international issues and the need, amid rapid changes, for closer cooperation and mutual support on the international stage.
