On 27 June 2026, Dr Ly Thuch spoke and shared Cambodia’s experience at the high-level discussion “Asia-Pacific in Motion: New Powers, Old Rivalries”, held during Dubrovnik Forum 2026.
The senior minister said autonomy, dialogue and respect for international law were essential foundations for peace and stability in the Asia-Pacific as the world moved more clearly towards a multipolar order.
Drawing on Cambodia’s experience, Dr Ly Thuch said major-power rivalry should not harm smaller countries. He said Cambodia had maintained independence and sovereignty by building balanced partnerships based on mutual respect, shared benefits and national interests.
The senior minister also highlighted ASEAN’s important role in sustaining dialogue and cooperation among influential regional countries. He said diplomacy and confidence-building were effective tools for preventing conflict, strengthening understanding and improving regional resilience.
Dr Ly Thuch urged all countries to choose partnership and cooperation over confrontation. He said Asia-Pacific progress should be seen as a valuable opportunity to build partnerships, peace and shared prosperity rather than as a threat. By: Pai Sokhim
