On July 2, 2026, the General Department of Immigration’s Investigation and Procedure Enforcement Department deported 45 Vietnamese nationals, including three women, through the Prey Vor international border checkpoint in Svay Rieng province. Authorities said the deportations concerned cases involving online scams, illicit drug trafficking or use, lack of passports, and unlawful residence.
The deportations followed recommendations from the deputy prime minister and minister of interior, other senior officials and the Interior Ministry leadership, and were carried out under the orders of Lieutenant General សុខ វាសនា, director-general of immigration.
The report presented the deportations as part of the strict legal measures of Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet and the direction of Deputy Prime Minister and Interior Minister Sar Sokha to combat technology-enabled crime in Cambodia and protect people locally and worldwide without exception, particularly by pursuing those behind the crimes. It also highlighted efforts to rescue victims deceived into working in online scams, restore their freedom and enable them to return to their home countries.
