The Cambodia–China Friendship Bridge connecting ព្រែកប្រសព្វ and ចិត្របុរី districts in Kratie has become an important piece of infrastructure, helping residents overcome difficulties crossing the Mekong and encouraging local economic development.
Before the bridge was built, residents, particularly those in ព្រែកប្រសព្វ district, relied on ferries to reach ចិត្របុរី district and Kratie town. Long waits, costs, and difficulties travelling at night or in emergencies were challenges they faced every day.
To address such difficulties, Hun Sen, during his time as prime minister, promoted the construction of numerous bridges across the Mekong throughout the country. Construction of the Cambodia–China Friendship Bridge in Kratie began in January 2023.
The bridge is 1,761 metres long, with 31.69 kilometres of connecting roads. The report states that construction was completed and the project officially opened for use in April 2026, making residents’ journeys easier, faster and safer.
The bridge has not only eased difficult river crossings but also encouraged greater economic activity in surrounding areas. Previously quiet locations have become busier, with more businesses and trading, contributing to residents’ incomes and livelihoods.
For people in Kratie, the bridge and connecting roads are valuable infrastructure linking people and opportunities and opening hopes for future development. Many residents have expressed happiness and appreciation for infrastructure that has tangibly changed their daily lives.
