Joint authorities carried out an operation against the unlawful transport of forest products and by-products, stopping seven motorised tillers carrying timber without permits in Chi Kreng district, Siem Reap province.
Authorities said the operation took place on July 6, 2026, with the Siem Reap Forestry Administration cantonment working alongside the Chi Kreng District Gendarmerie and the ពង្រក្រោម commune administrative police post. The interception occurred in ដងផ្អាវ village, ពង្រក្រោម commune, Chi Kreng district.
The authorities seized seven motorised tillers and 132 pieces of category-1 កកោះ roundwood, each two metres long, which were being transported without proper permits.
All evidence was taken for temporary storage at the Chi Kreng Forestry Administration station in សាលា village, Kampong Kdei commune, Chi Kreng district, for further legal proceedings.
Local sources said illegal logging continued in some parts of Siem Reap despite oversight by specialist officials and relevant institutions. They alleged that some traders continued felling and selling timber and clearing forest land to claim it as their own.
Conservation-minded young people called on Siem Reap provincial authorities and relevant ministries to investigate and take firm action over reported destruction of natural resources in ខ្វាវ commune, Chi Kreng district, to strengthen forest protection and conservation.
