ជាម ច័ន្ទសោភ័ណ, governor of Kampong Speu province and chairman of the provincial Red Cross branch committee, urged residents, especially parents and guardians, to take greater precautions against dengue as the rainy season created conditions for Aedes mosquitoes to breed and spread.
The appeal was made on the morning of July 6, 2026, when the governor led the provincial Red Cross branch team to visit children and guardians at Kampong Speu Provincial Referral Hospital, where the report said 135 people were receiving dengue treatment.
ជាម ច័ន្ទសោភ័ណ advised residents to remove mosquito-breeding habitats by cleaning around homes, eliminating objects that collect water and protecting children from bites. He also urged guardians to monitor children’s symptoms closely and take them promptly to the nearest hospital for examination and treatment if they developed a high fever.
He encouraged relevant officials to continue widely publicising dengue prevention and control measures to raise public awareness and reduce infection risks.
Dr. ហុក គ្រី, director of the Kampong Speu Provincial Health Department, said dengue cases often increased during the rainy months of June to August. By week 26 of 2026, the province had recorded 927 dengue cases in four districts and cities: Samraong Tong, Phnum Sruoch, សាមគ្គីមុនីជ័យ and Chbar Mon.
That was an increase of 424 cases, or approximately 84 percent, compared with 503 cases in the same period of 2025. Two patients died while being transferred for emergency treatment in Phnom Penh, whereas no dengue deaths had been reported in the corresponding period of 2025.
