Summary

Local media reported that residents displaced from Thmar Da commune in Pursat were still unable to return home more than six months after leaving. People at temporary shelters appealed for conditions allowing a safe return and the restoration of their livelihoods.

According to local media, more than six months have passed since border fighting forced residents to leave their homes. Hundreds of families from Thmar Da commune, Pursat province, were still living in temporary shelters and had not returned home.
Article 4 of the ceasefire agreement signed on December 27, 2025, stipulates that both sides should allow displaced civilians and refugees affected by the border conflict to return home safely as soon as possible. However, some people at the shelters said that parts of the roads leading to their homes and farmland remained obstructed, and their plans to return had not been realised.
At the temporary shelter at Hun Sen Pramoy High School, displaced residents told the media of their strong wish to return home soon. “We do not want to stay in temporary accommodation anymore. We just want to go home, live on our own land and earn a living as before,” a resident representative said in a joint statement.
Residents interviewed said they trusted the Cambodian government to continue pursuing a peaceful and diplomatic resolution to the border issue. They called on the parties concerned to comply with the ceasefire agreement and international law and create conditions for displaced people to return safely.
The families were still living in temporary shelters at the time of the report. The arrival of the rainy season was presenting challenges to living conditions. Residents hoped the border situation would stabilise soon so they could return home and resume normal life and work.
