The Investigation and Procedure Enforcement Department of the General Department of Immigration deported 17 Thai nationals, including eight women, from Cambodia on July 17, 2026. They were deported because of involvement in online scams, unlawful possession of narcotics and organising their unlawful use, as well as illegal residence and employment.
According to the General Department of Immigration, the Thai nationals were deported through the Cham Yeam International Border Checkpoint police post in Koh Kong province, following the instructions of Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Sar Sokha and other Interior Ministry leaders, including Lieutenant General សុខ វាសនា, Director-General of Immigration.
The deportation was carried out under the firm legal measures of Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet and the determined direction of Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Sar Sokha. These efforts aim to eradicate all technology-based crime in Cambodia and protect the safety of people locally and around the world, without exceptions, especially for the masterminds behind such operations. They also aim to rescue victims deceived by ringleaders into working in online scam activities, enabling them to regain their freedom and return to their home countries.
