On July 17, 2026, Poipet gendarmes carried out a targeted operation against a group suspected of stealing motorcycles and purchasing and selling stolen motorcycles. Thirteen suspects were arrested and referred to the Banteay Meanchey Provincial Court of First Instance for legal proceedings.
According to the Poipet gendarmerie, the operation followed complaints from several victims. Police had opened investigations into two motorcycle thefts in 米塔帕姆 village in Poipet subdistrict and 克巴尔斯潘一 village in 奥克罗夫 subdistrict. Investigators used enquiries at the scenes and the vehicles’ GPS tracking systems to locate the suspects’ hiding place.
Officers then carried out arrests in “Four Kilometre Village” in Poipet’s 坎达尔 subdistrict, detaining 13 suspects and recovering six motorcycles linked to the case. Two motorcycles whose owners had been identified were returned; the other four were temporarily held while police checked their origins and sought their owners. Officers also found evidence linked to other cases at the scene.
Following questioning and urine tests, all 13 suspects tested positive for drugs. On the basis of the evidence gathered, police provisionally considered them suspected of offences including aggravated theft, receiving stolen property, unlawful possession or transport of weapons, and unlawful drug use.
The 13 suspects and the evidence have now been referred to the Banteay Meanchey Provincial Court of First Instance in accordance with legal procedures. The case remains under further consideration.
