Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet has tasked Aun Pornmoniroth, Minister of Economy and Finance, with leading the preparation and consideration of further necessary and urgent measures to address challenges and promote and encourage small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs).
In a message posted on his official Facebook page on the morning of July 19, 2026, Hun Manet said SMEs were an important driver of national economic growth and job creation. Successive governments had introduced policies and measures to promote SME development, and the government of the Seventh Legislature of the National Assembly had continued to introduce additional measures to encourage and facilitate the establishment and operation of SMEs.
“Alongside the many positive achievements we have made, we still face a number of challenges that must be addressed to make the SME sector stronger,” Hun Manet stressed. At a time when Cambodia needs to increase domestic production to replace imports, the role of SMEs is becoming even more important.
On this issue, Hun Manet tasked Economy and Finance Minister Aun Pornmoniroth, in his capacity as Chairman of the Economic Policy Committee, with leading the preparation and consideration of further necessary and urgent measures to address challenges and promote and encourage SMEs.
The Prime Minister said that, when preparing and introducing policies and measures in the past, the government had always carried out detailed studies and consulted SME representatives, the private sector and relevant ministries and institutions to gather input as a basis for its work. “In this regard, to improve the effectiveness of addressing these challenges, I welcome the views and suggestions of our people, especially those working in the SME sector, on the challenges faced by SMEs and how to address them. These views are an important additional input for the government to use as a basis for developing more effective and targeted measures to resolve SMEs’ problems.”
