Summary

Prime Minister Hun Manet invited the public, especially SME operators and workers, to suggest ways to address challenges in the sector. In a July 19 social media message, he said the government would study their input to improve policies and support domestic production and import substitution.

Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet said on July the 19th in a morning social media post that small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) are an important force for economic growth, job creation and national industrial competitiveness. Successive Cambodian governments have continued to introduce policies and measures supporting SME development, and the Seventh Government has launched additional initiatives to create a more favourable environment for establishing, operating and developing businesses.

Hun Manet noted that although the government has made progress in supporting SMEs in recent years, challenges remain and policies and measures need further improvement. As Cambodia promotes domestic production and import substitution, SMEs play an increasingly important role in industrial upgrading, expanding local manufacturing and strengthening economic resilience.

He said the government had tasked the Minister of Economy and Finance with leading research and policy development, while maintaining close consultation with SME representatives, the private sector and relevant ministries to gather a broad range of suggestions and ensure that support measures better address businesses’ practical needs and are more targeted and effective.

Hun Manet stressed that the public, especially SME operators and workers, are welcome to offer suggestions on the sector’s difficulties and possible improvements. He said the government would carefully study and draw on their input, continue improving policies and measures, create a better environment for SMEs and sustain high-quality development of Cambodia’s economy.
