U.S. companies have expressed interest in and readiness to invest in Cambodia, particularly in digital finance, human resource development and support for small and medium enterprises. The interest was conveyed at a July 21 meeting at the National Bank of Cambodia between its governor, Dr. ជា សិរី, and a U.S.-ASEAN Business Council delegation led by President and CEO Brian McFeeters, with representatives of the U.S. Embassy in Cambodia also attending.

Brian McFeeters said the delegation’s visit to Cambodia aimed to strengthen cooperation between the U.S. private sector and relevant stakeholders and explore new investment opportunities to support Cambodia’s economic development. He affirmed U.S. companies’ interest in and readiness to invest in Cambodia, particularly in digital finance, human resource development and support for small and medium enterprises.

Representatives of the U.S. Embassy in Cambodia commended the National Bank of Cambodia’s role in maintaining banking system stability, modernising payment systems and strengthening the regulatory framework, which they said had helped build investor confidence and create a favourable investment environment in Cambodia.

In response, the governor stressed the importance of the economic partnership between Cambodia and the United States, a major export market for Cambodia. She said U.S. investment had contributed to job creation, skills development, economic diversification and the introduction of international standards to Cambodia.

She also praised cooperation between the National Bank of Cambodia and U.S. international payment card network companies in developing the Bakong Tourists app, which had helped facilitate payments by international visitors, support local businesses and promote use of the riel.

The meeting also exchanged ideas on strengthening cooperation between the National Bank of Cambodia and the U.S. private sector to support financial sector development and promote sustainable economic growth in Cambodia.
