កែវ សុទ្ធិ, Vice-Chair of the Cambodian Human Rights Committee (CHRC), described what he called Thai military aggression against Cambodian territory during a working meeting with Abigail Fryer, Deputy Head of Mission at the British Embassy in Cambodia, on July 22. He outlined allegations of Thai incursions, continued occupation and claims over certain Cambodian temples and areas, and the resulting human-rights issues.
On border issues, the report says the CHRC has actively supported the Royal Government in defending Cambodia’s territorial integrity and its people’s rights and freedoms by issuing condemnatory petitions and submitting complaints to international and regional human-rights mechanisms, with the report referring to 60 documents, as well as providing direct assistance to troops and displaced civilians. At the direction of Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet, the CHRC also led an interministerial and inter-institutional delegation on a human-rights mission to Geneva, Switzerland, to present Cambodia’s account of Thai aggression.
In response, Abigail Fryer thanked him for the important information and expressed regret over the impacts. She hoped the two countries could find a solution quickly and build lasting peace, according to the report.
