The General Department of Immigration deported 158 Chinese nationals, including five women, from Cambodia through the Techo International Airport border police checkpoint on July 25, 2026. Acting on instructions from Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Sar Sokha and ministry leaders, Lieutenant General សុខ វាសនា, the department’s director-general, directed the Department of Investigation and Procedure Implementation to coordinate with the Chinese Embassy in Cambodia.
The deportations followed findings by authorities that those involved had links to technology-enabled fraud, or online scams, unlawful residence and employment, and the unlawful use of narcotic substances.
The report describes the deportation of foreigners staying unlawfully as strict implementation of Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet’s orders and legal measures. He had previously stated clearly: “Cambodia does not allow criminals or people acting unlawfully to use its territory for scams or other offences that create insecurity in the region and the world. Authorities must continue clearing out, cracking down on and deporting them without exception to protect the country’s honour and security.”
In that spirit, and under the direct guidance of Deputy Prime Minister and Interior Minister Sar Sokha, the report says authorities have been working to eliminate technology-enabled crime, investigate and act against ringleaders, and rescue people deceived into becoming victims so they can regain their freedom and return home safely.
