Summary

Singapore’s ambassador and Phnom Penh’s governor discussed anti-scam efforts, investor confidence and cooperation in education, trade, health and tourism.

On July 30, Singapore’s Ambassador to Cambodia, Steven Pang Chee Wee, paid a courtesy call on Phnom Penh Governor Khuong Sreng. They discussed cooperation across multiple sectors and Cambodia’s business environment. Pang said Cambodia’s continued efforts to combat online scams and steadily improve security had strengthened foreign investor confidence and opened up opportunities for bilateral economic cooperation.

Pang said security was a primary consideration for companies making investment decisions. Cambodia’s crackdown on online scams was a key step in improving its investment environment. He said he continued to recommend Cambodia to Singaporean businesses, describing Phnom Penh and Cambodia more broadly as safe and stable places to invest. People-to-people and business ties were also growing, with four flights a day between the two countries supporting bilateral exchanges.

He said Singapore and Cambodia would continue deepening cooperation in key areas including education, trade, healthcare and tourism. Beyond the well-known Angkor Wat, Cambodia’s varied cultural and tourism attractions, distinctive traditions and cuisine were drawing increasing interest. Its tourism potential was gaining wider recognition, and Singapore would continue helping to promote Cambodia’s tourism internationally.

Phnom Penh Governor Khuong Sreng outlined the capital’s development in recent years and addressed efforts to tackle online scams. He said the problem was a global challenge rather than one unique to Cambodia. Under the direction of Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet, the country would continue its crackdown and work to create a transparent, law-abiding and orderly environment for economic development, free of criminal activity.
