US President Donald Trump announced at a rally in Alaska on Tuesday that Taiwan has agreed to purchase 30% of the liquefied natural gas (LNG) from the pipeline project in the state, but the specific terms of the deal have not yet been officially disclosed.
US Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick confirmed that Taiwan has committed to investing $4.4 billion in the development of this pipeline project.
Trump's announcement comes after Taiwanese officials said in February that they would increase their purchases of natural gas from the United States to about one-third of the island's total imports in 2026 and reduce purchases from other countries.
It should also be noted that last year, Taiwan's national energy company (CPC Corp) signed an agreement with Alaska Gasline Development Corp to purchase liquefied natural gas and invest in this pipeline project. By: Rithy
