Cambodia's energy sector is poised to welcome new foreign investors. Kuwaiti firm Tanmia Global Strategic Development Advisory (TGA) recently signaled its intent to invest, planning to participate in Cambodia's oil and gas industry and considering the construction of a refinery and related supporting facilities.

Recently, TGA head Najeeb Al-Menifi met with Chhay Makara, Cambodia's ambassador to Kuwait, at the Cambodian Embassy in Kuwait City. The talks focused on exploring investment opportunities in the energy sector and the prospects for bilateral cooperation.

During the meeting, Najeeb Al-Menifi said the company was interested in participating in the exploration and development of Cambodia's onshore and offshore oil and gas resources, and was also considering investing in oil storage facilities, refineries and supporting transportation systems to further expand the energy industry chain.

In response, Chhay Makara welcomed TGA's investment interest and said the Cambodian Embassy in Kuwait would actively coordinate with relevant departments to support the company in understanding investment policies, examining projects and advancing cooperation.

The two sides also discussed arranging a TGA delegation to visit Cambodia for a field trip to further assess local energy resources and the investment environment. However, the relevant matters remain at the stage of investment intent and preliminary communications; the specific investment scale and project construction plans have yet to be announced.

It is understood that Kuwait is a member of the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) and has extensive experience in the oil industry. If subsequent cooperation proceeds smoothly, it is expected to bring new investment opportunities to Cambodia's oil and gas exploration, refining and energy infrastructure development.
