Cambodia's Ministry of National Defense has announced the arrival of two relief officers from the Socialist Republic of Vietnam to join the ASEAN Observer Team (AOT) deployed to Cambodia under the leadership of the Philippines.
A warm welcome ceremony was held on the evening of 17 October 2026 at Techo International Airport, attended by senior officers of the relevant international relations department and the Cambodian Coordination Liaison Group (CLG). The two Vietnamese officers, Lieutenant Colonel Do Xuan Thang and Major Vu Manh Thang, will serve their tour observing, verifying and monitoring reports on the situation along the Cambodia-Thailand border after the ceasefire entered into force, to ensure the implementation of measures in line with the joint declaration.
Cambodia reaffirmed its full support for the role and mandate of the AOT as an indispensable mechanism in promoting transparency, accountability and trust-building between the two countries. At the same time, Cambodia remains open and welcomes any additional contributions from friendly nations.
The Royal Government and Ministry of National Defense of Cambodia have reiterated their firmest and strongest commitment to continuing to fully implement all agreed understandings, including: the joint declaration of the 3rd Special Meeting of the Cambodia-Thailand General Border Committee (GBC) on 27 December 2025, and the joint statement on the peace agreement on 26 October 2025, aimed at restoring normalcy and ensuring lasting peace and stability along the border areas.
