Myanmar's military government released rare images of detained former civilian leader Aung San Suu Kyi yesterday, October 19, saying government officials had personally delivered books and a letter from Britain's King Charles to her.
According to a social-media post, officials delivered two books, The Land Gardeners: Soil To Table and Soil: The World At Our Feet, along with a sealed envelope and a diplomatic message sent directly by the British monarch.

The delivery of gifts and the message represented a rare international contact with Suu Kyi. Her whereabouts and health have been kept highly secret since the 2021 coup, and no foreign leader or envoy has been able to meet her publicly despite numerous requests.

The 81-year-old Suu Kyi has been detained since February 2021, when the military overthrew her administration in a coup and arrested civilian leaders. The Nobel Peace Prize laureate was moved to house arrest in April after Min Aung Hlaing was elected president of Myanmar.

She is currently serving an 18-year prison sentence on charges ranging from incitement and corruption to electoral fraud and breaches of the state secrets law. She has rejected all of the charges. By: រិទ្ធី
