The UK Ministry of Defence announced yesterday, Tuesday, that Britain would send Typhoon fighter jets to help protect Saudi Arabian cities and critical national infrastructure against Houthi air attacks.
The ministry said the aircraft would operate solely in a defensive role and would not conduct offensive strikes against the Iranian-backed Houthis. Britain said the group’s attacks were threatening regional stability and disrupting energy supplies and trade routes.
Britain will also deploy an Atlas A400M transport aircraft and military advisers, expanding the support announced in September, which included an RAF Voyager air-to-air refuelling aircraft.
Houthi attacks on Saudi oil facilities and other infrastructure have intensified in recent weeks as the conflict in Yemen has grown increasingly tense. Written by: រិទ្ធី
