Summary

Siem Reap city gendarmerie detained two suspects on October 20 over alleged impersonation of soldiers to solicit money and supplies from the public.

Siem Reap city gendarmerie forces detained two suspects at Phsar Leu Thmei (New Big Market) in Siem Reap city, Siem Reap province, on the morning of October 20, 2026, in connection with wearing counterfeit military uniforms to solicit money and supplies from members of the public.

According to information received, the two suspects went around pagodas, markets and door-to-door asking for donations, claiming that the money and supplies would be used to help soldiers at the front lines.
However, according to the suspects' confession, the money and supplies collected were instead sold and used for their own personal benefit, rather than being used to help soldiers as claimed.

During the operation, specialized forces seized military uniforms, military caps, mobile phones, and some documents for further legal processing.
This case serves as a reminder for members of the public to remain vigilant and to carefully verify information before providing money or supplies to anyone claiming to be collecting donations for soldiers.
