Summary

The two tourism ministers discussed joint promotion, cross-border travel and the “Two Countries, One Destination” initiative in Stung Treng.

Cambodia and Laos agreed to strengthen friendship and tourism cooperation between the two countries, particularly by implementing the tourism cooperation action plan promoting the “Two Countries, One Destination” initiative.
This followed a working meeting between Cambodian Tourism Minister Huot Hak and Lao Minister of Culture and Tourism Suanesavanh Vignaket on October 20, 2026, in Stung Treng province.

Both sides stressed the importance of strengthening tourism cooperation on the basis of traditional friendship and good neighbourliness. They expressed their commitment to joint tourism promotion, exchanges of experience and the development of new tourism products to attract more visitors to both countries.

The two sides also agreed to deepen bilateral tourism cooperation through joint promotion, familiarisation trips to tourism destinations, easier cross-border travel, connections between destinations and joint tourism packages, as well as private-sector partnerships and tourism business-matching forums. These efforts support the “Two Countries, One Destination” initiative and tourism and people-to-people exchanges during celebrations of the 70th anniversary of Cambodia–Laos diplomatic relations, with the aim of expanding markets, increasing two-way tourist flows, attracting international visitors and contributing to sustainable tourism development and mutual benefit.

The Cambodian minister also asked the Lao side to continue promoting Cambodian tourism destinations through official publicity channels and digital platforms, and to encourage familiarisation trips for tourism companies, journalists and content creators. He encouraged stronger cooperation between border provinces and more effective implementation of the “Two Countries, One Destination” initiative to develop joint packages and attract international visitors.
