The prolonged and bloody war between Russia and Ukraine may find a way forward after the parties involved decided to engage again, a development being closely watched around the world. Yesterday, Wednesday, October 21, Russia agreed to resume trilateral talks with the United States and Ukraine next month with the aim of ending the war.
Following a closed-door meeting in St. Petersburg between the Russian leader and US special envoy Steve Witkoff, Russian President Vladimir Putin announced his agreement to restart negotiations after November 10.
The discussion between Witkoff and Putin about Russia’s full-scale invasion took place as US President Donald Trump was putting heavy pressure on Ukraine to reach a ceasefire agreement and end the fighting immediately.
Representatives of Russia, Ukraine and the United States had already held three rounds of talks earlier this year, meeting in Abu Dhabi in January and February before continuing discussions in Geneva that same February.
However, apart from exchanges of prisoners of war, those negotiations have made very little tangible progress, while Russia and Ukraine continue to uphold their respective positions and demands. By: រិទ្ធី
