On October 22, 2026, Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet reiterated that Cambodian border officials have never privately agreed to cede land to Thailand by installing border markers, and that the government and relevant officials remain committed to safeguarding the country's territorial integrity.
Hun Manet made the remarks in Phnom Penh at the launch of the National Strategy for Micro, Small and Medium Enterprise Development 2026–2030, responding to controversy over land between border markers 52 and 59.
He said Um Sam An and some opposition figures overseas had recently alleged that the Cambodian government and border working group had ceded land to Thailand. Hun Manet denied the allegations, saying they had no factual basis.
Hun Manet stressed that protecting national sovereignty and territorial integrity is a major government responsibility. He said border working groups, the military, government officials and diplomats serve the country in their respective roles and should not be accused without evidence.
With Cambodia–Thailand border issues continuing to attract attention, Hun Manet urged all parties to view the controversy rationally and avoid believing or spreading unverified information. Specific boundary issues should be assessed through formal procedures and reliable information.
