Cambodia reaffirmed its commitment to implementing the Anti-Personnel Mine Ban Convention during the discussion on “Conventional Weapons” at the United Nations General Assembly’s First Committee, which deals with disarmament and international security, in New York on 22 October 2026.

At the meeting, Cambodia’s Deputy Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Yueng Chansophea, emphasized the importance of strengthening mine action and assistance to victims to address threats that continue to affect the safety of Cambodian people.

He said residents of villages across Cambodia continued to face dangers from artillery shells, unexploded cluster munitions and cluster-munition remnants, which obstruct the safe return of displaced people to their homes. His remarks highlighted the importance of continued mine action and victim assistance to reduce risks and help people return safely to their communities.
