In its 2026 operations against illegal entry and high-tech crime, Dong Nai City Police in Vietnam identified eight cases involving 129 people, according to a recent report. Police said most of those involved were Chinese nationals who had entered Vietnam illegally from Cambodia. The cases remain under investigation.
According to police investigations, some people were suspected of residing illegally in Vietnam and planning to rent houses or apartments as accommodation, install electronic equipment and establish online scam operations. During checks in several areas, police found that some sites were already being used for online scams, while others were still preparing equipment, arranging accommodation or awaiting transfer.
Dong Nai City Police have opened six criminal cases involving suspected organisation of illegal entry and residence for others and initiated criminal proceedings against seven suspects, including five Vietnamese nationals and two Chinese nationals.
Police also opened one criminal case concerning suspected property fraud using computer networks, telecommunications networks and electronic equipment, and initiated criminal proceedings against four suspects, including three Vietnamese nationals and one Chinese national.
Vietnamese police said that, as Cambodia continues its crackdown on online scam sites, some people involved may try to relocate to Vietnam. To prevent such criminal activities from spreading, local authorities will strengthen checks on foreigners’ entry, residence and related activities, and conduct joint operations with relevant units of Vietnam’s Ministry of Public Security.
Police said they would continue investigating the cases and taking firm action against illegal entry, illegal residence, online scams and other offences. Each person’s specific involvement remains subject to further verification.
