On the morning of October 23, a groundbreaking ceremony for the submarine fiber optic cable communications landing station project was officially held in Preah Sihanouk province, marking the start of construction. Once completed, the project is expected to further enhance Cambodia’s international communications connectivity.

According to reports, the project is being promoted by Cambodia’s Ministry of Posts and Telecommunications, with China Railway Construction Harbor & Channel Engineering Bureau Group Co., Ltd. responsible for construction. Construction is planned to take about seven months, with completion expected in 2027.
According to the project plan, the submarine fiber optic cable network will connect Hong Kong, Vietnam and Cambodia, further strengthening Cambodia’s interconnection with regional and international communications networks.

As the digital economy continues to develop, stable, high-speed international network connectivity is becoming increasingly important for business operations, investment and development, and people’s daily lives. Once completed, the project is expected to strengthen Cambodia’s international internet access and provide infrastructure support for the future development of next-generation communications technologies such as 5G and 6G, meeting growing demand for network communications.
