Preah Sihanouk Province: The opening ceremony of the “Run for the Planet” event, together with environmental clean-up activities and a campaign promoting plastic-free practices and environmental awareness, took place in Preah Sihanouk on the morning of October 30, 2026. Deputy Governor Samuth Sothearith attended on behalf of Governor Mang Sineth. Organised jointly by the Cambodia Tourism Association (CATA) and Six Senses Krabey Island, the event drew local authorities, members of the armed forces, private-sector representatives, students and many members of the public.
At the event, the Preah Sihanouk Provincial Administration expressed its sincere thanks to all parties that had initiated the campaign to reduce plastic waste, foster care for the environment and raise public awareness, especially among young people. The event also reflected the attention that the Cambodian government, led by Prime Minister Hun Manet, gives to promoting sport, in line with the movement encouraging every young person to practise at least one sport throughout life, for good health and to avoid harmful behaviour.
The deputy governor added that promoting public health and maintaining a clean environment were important catalysts in supporting the government’s policy of developing Preah Sihanouk into a “model multi-purpose special economic zone” and a major economic pole attracting investment and international tourism. Many companies, businesspeople and youth groups also expressed their delight and full support for the provincial leadership’s organisation of such a meaningful event for the public benefit.
