Summary

Kampot city authorities visited and provided gifts to over 160 displaced families staying temporarily with relatives on December 21. The mayor urged trust in the government and said provincial authorities were ready to receive and support people.

Kampot Mayor Leang Rounsothy called on displaced people to trust Cambodia’s government, especially Hun Sen and Hun Manet, who he said always cared for the public and were working to bring peace to people as soon as possible. He also asked them to trust the bravery of Cambodian troops, saying the forces were firmly defending territorial integrity at the front and would not allow an invading enemy to take even a handspan of land.

The mayor made the remarks on the morning of December 21, 2025, while visiting, speaking with and giving gifts to more than 160 displaced families from various provinces who were staying temporarily with relatives in Kampot city.

During the visit, he conveyed greetings and sympathy for the displaced families’ grief and difficulties from Hun Sen, Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet and Kampot Governor Mao Thonin. He said the leaders consistently paid close attention to people’s welfare and needs, especially those displaced from their hometowns and staying temporarily with family members and relatives.

The mayor said an invasion threatening territorial integrity had increased the number of displaced people. Leaders at all levels were caring for the public and would leave no one behind in any circumstances, particularly ensuring that no one lacked food.

He also encouraged displaced people to continue caring for their physical and mental health and not to worry about accommodation or food. He said Kampot provincial authorities, under Governor Mao Thonin and with guidance from the head of government, were ready to receive and support people at any time.
