Summary

The National Bank of Cambodia and the banking association are preparing a centre to handle and mediate banking disputes, including new forms of disputes involving online fraud. Preparations were reported to be nearly complete.

The National Bank of Cambodia is working with the Association of Banks in Cambodia to establish a financial dispute resolution centre within the nationwide banking system. It will receive and mediate disputes concerning banking services, with particular attention to new forms of financial disputes such as online fraud. Preparations for the centre are nearly complete, and it is expected to begin operating soon.

The information was disclosed by the head of the central bank’s payment systems department at a cybersecurity seminar on digital financial security regulation. She said the rapid spread of digital financial services had brought a continuing rise in transaction disputes and fraud complaints, putting pressure on existing handling mechanisms and making a unified, efficient dispute resolution platform necessary.

Industry observers believe the centre will help improve financial consumer protection and strengthen the banking sector’s ability to prevent risks and handle disputes. Clear procedures and professional coordination mechanisms are expected to further build public trust in the banking system and help Cambodia’s digital financial environment become safer, better regulated and more resilient.
