Summary

Kun Kim inspected shelters in Oddar Meanchey on December 23, urging faster preparations as the displaced population exceeded approximately 600,000, with priority care for older people, children and pregnant women.

Following the recommendations of Cambodian Prime Minister and National Committee for Disaster Management Chairman Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet, caring for people displaced by the fighting has been made a high priority to ensure their safety and provide sufficient food and essential supplies.

Senior Minister and First Vice-Chairman of the National Committee for Disaster Management Kun Kim made the remarks while inspecting progress on mobile shelters at a safe centre for war-displaced residents in Oddar Meanchey province on December 23, 2025.

The senior minister said that, in its role supporting the Royal Government, the committee had found that the displaced population had risen to more than approximately 600,000, making the provision of mobile shelters at safe centres an urgent issue.

He said the shelters could accommodate many displaced families, protect them from current weather conditions and provide suitable accommodation for larger households.

During the visit, he urged the working group to prepare the mobile shelters as quickly as possible so displaced people, particularly older people, children and pregnant women, could stay under the care of the Royal Government and local authorities.

After inspecting shelter preparations, he visited displaced residents and reminded them to follow the authorities’ instructions and trust the leadership of Samdech Techo Hun Sen and Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet, Cambodia’s Prime Minister and head of the Royal Government, who, he said, always care for and stand with the people in all circumstances.
