“Cambodia Needs Peace”, “Humanity Needs Peace” and “I Want to Study” were the messages on banners raised by thousands of Cambodians for the world to see after the Thai military launched what the report describes as a brazen invasion of Cambodian territory. At the “Barefoot Walk for Peace” event in Siem Reap city on December 24, 2025, thousands of participants, including monks, Buddhist devotees of all ages and genders, and students, raised banners reading “Cambodia Needs Peace”, “Humanity Needs Peace” and “I Want to Study”. They carried Cambodian national and religious flags to show the world that “Cambodia Loves Peace” and “Hates War”.

Through this barefoot walk over several kilometres, Cambodia also wanted to send a strong, clear message to the international community and foreign visitors: “The Cambodian people need peace”, and children need education.
